William N. (Bill) Westhoff
President and Founder of Lakeview Investment Advisors, LLC
Bill has been in the investment industry since 1969. He started Lakeview Investment Advisors, LLC, in 2002 as a small investment advisory firm dedicated to using his investment experience to help his individual clients preserve and build wealth. Before starting Lakeview, he was senior vice president and chief investment officer of Minnesota Life Insurance Company and president of Advantus Capital Management, the investment management subsidiary of Minnesota Life. At Advantus Capital Management, Bill was responsible for the entire investment function, including portfolio management and research, insurance asset advisory, marketing and sales, legal services, compliance, and investment administration. Advantus had assets under management of approximately $16 billion. Under Bill’s leadership, Advantus made a number of organizational changes to improve investment performance and strengthen the business model.
Prior to joining Advantus, Bill spent 26 years with American Express Financial Advisors. His most recent experience was senior vice president of global investments, responsible for all equity and fixed income international investments, including offices in London and Hong Kong. Prior to that, he served as senior vice president of fixed income management and was responsible for fixed income asset investments. During this time he also managed two mutual funds and served as chief investment officer of IDS Life Insurance Company. Fixed incomes assets totaled approximately $60 billion, and the assets of IDS Life were approximately $30 billion.
Mr. Westhoff is currently chairman of the Advisory Board for the Carlson Fund Enterprises at the University Of Minnesota Carlson School Of Management. He served on the Board of Directors for the Advantus Funds from 1998 until 2004 and recently completed a two-year term as president of the Board of Directors for the American Lung Association of Minnesota. He continues as a member of several committees at ALAMN.
